The Rise of Kel'el Ware: A Preseason Story
In the world of NBA preseason, one name has been capturing the spotlight - Kel'el Ware, the Miami Heat's promising center. His journey so far has been a rollercoaster, but Heat coach Erik Spoelstra believes in his potential.
"I'm excited about his progress," Spoelstra said, adding, "The talent is undeniable."
Ware showcased his skills in a recent preseason game against the Orlando Magic, scoring an impressive 24 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. However, his performance wasn't flawless, and there were moments where his impact wasn't felt on the team's success.
But here's where it gets controversial... Despite these ups and downs, Ware has demonstrated a willingness to learn and improve. Spoelstra highlighted this, saying, "I'd rather coach someone who listens and learns, even if they put up big numbers. That's the key to winning."
And this is the part most people miss... Ware's stats have improved significantly since then. In the last two exhibitions, he averaged 26.5 points and 11 rebounds per game, shooting efficiently from the field.
"I take the coach's feedback as motivation," Ware said. "I'm working hard to earn his trust and prove I can be a consistent winner."
However, despite these encouraging moments, Ware seems set to begin the regular season in a supporting role, unlike last season where he was a starter and one of the league's top rookies. The Heat's strategy involves staggering Ware's minutes with Bam Adebayo, who was his frontcourt partner last season.
"We're exploring different options," Spoelstra explained. "All possibilities are on the table."
In addition to Ware, the Heat's rookie guard, Kasparas Jakucionis, has been dealing with an injury. He played just four minutes against the Magic before exiting with hip soreness. On the other hand, Davion Mitchell, another Heat guard, made his preseason debut after missing the first three games due to calf soreness.
"It's all about finding my rhythm now," Mitchell said.
